Optical zoom is never really useful below about 7x. Naked eye is always better. This optic doesn't waste time with what one can already see and goes right into seeing new things on the horizon. Was looking down the beach and saw nobody. Pulled out this optic and saw surfers about a half mile away. Didn't even see them without this optic. That's the promise of optics that's never met, until this gem. Movies always show the hero looking through an optic to see land or some object hidden by distance? This is the first optic that actually accomplishes that feat. Only 82 grams (3 oz.) with lens caps.

Yes, it shakes, but that's not the optic's fault. Looking through an awfully thin straw at 50x? Of course it requires a steady hand. But, the magnification is available, unlike most optics.

Held it by hand up to iPhone camera. It works... barely. The rubber eye relief prevents proper positioning, so the image is a moderate circle instead of utilizing the camera's whole field of view. Maybe 20% of iPhone's FoV? To be fair, this optic doesn't even mention the possibility of using with a camera, but it's nice to know there is some capability.
