The Phottix Strato flash system is, in my opinion, just OK.
They say, "You get what you pay for!" Well, they are right in some ways. For $119.99 you get far more than what you pay for in the case of the Phottix Strato TTL flash trigger set. At least in my experience, this set of triggers has worked flawlessly right out of the box. I put the AA batteries in the units, turned the units on, and set the channel selector,--- and started shooting! I have been a photographer for years; but must admit I am not brilliant in anyway; but Phottix makes that a nonissue. If you can't figure out how to use these triggers, without reading the instruction manual, I would suggest you are bumber than I am! The units are well made, and just exude quality. I love being able to control my off-camera flash unit from the camera. The EV adjustments work great. I must admit that I only got this set yesterday, but I wanted to spread the word that so far these things are amazing!!
These are TTL radio frequency triggers. They are simple and straight forward way to get your speedlight off your camera and still have full TTL function. I have done high speed sync with them and my Nikon SB800 flashes. What surprised me was that I can also use them with my SB-80DX flashes and shoot at 8000th of a second. They offer 4 different chanels to work with. They come with batteries and an assorment of connection cables including a ten pin Nikon connection. I have not had an occasion to use them except when I used the remote unit as a cable release while doing shots of the Milky Way. For the price they are hard to beat, and in my view a great value.
I am an amateur photographer with maybe more experience than some. I love the Phottix Strato TTL Flash Trigger Set for Canon. In fact, even though I guarded it closely, I lost my first set and just bought a replacement set. I use a Canon Speedlite 430Xii flash, and the set works perfectly with it. I like the more natural-looking pictures I get with the flash off-set from my camera a bit. I highly recommend the trigger set. Just be sure to set both pieces on the same channel, and be sure to look at the connections on the flash and the receiver and on the camera and the transmitter. I hate to reveal my stupidity, but I tried and tired to get the set to work - to no avail until I finally looked to see the configuration of the posts on each piece of equipment. Wallah! A revelation! I plan actually to play the CD of instructions that comes with the set since I received the new set. I might learn even more about important things.:)
I purchased this item a while back but never really used it. But in preparation for a upcoming shoot, I took it out and began testing it. To my dismay, TTL would not function properly. It would fire the flash, but I had to set the output manually. I was using it with a 7dMkII and a 600EX-RT flash. Not wanting to give up, I continued testing and researching online for answers. On a whim, I took out my T3i and gave it a whirl. Magically, the TTL worked, which told me it was an issue with my 7dMkII and the transmitter. On another whim I tried the 1DX setting on the transmitter and BAM!, TTL worked on my 7dMkII. I am just now beginning to test this out. I will come report back on my results. So far though, great. On another note, I contacted Phottix about this and their initial response was within 12 hrs. I have sent them another request to see if their is a firmware update for this item, to make it compatible with newer camera models. This may not be an issue if you recently purchased your transmitter.
The Phottix Strato TTL Flash Trigger unfortunately has been discontinued.
These Phottix Strato TTL Flash Triggers work as advertised. I love them. I have been looking for something like this for a long time so I can shoot with my flash off camera. Most of the ones I looked at were more expensive and they only worked in manual. These work in manual, TTL and Auto. I like to have those options. I have been using them since the first day I got them and they haven't failed once. Love them. No need to spend your money on more expensive triggers. These work great!!!
Yooo when I say I love this device! I mean I love it!! It's so straight forward an I can control everything from the Transmitter An the receiver tells the flash... it's Awesome
These are just brilliant. Transceiver on camera, receivers on the flash, away you go with power adjustable off camera flash.
Great product got this to expand the system i had very well made and works flawlessly
Looks the business but not compatible with my other Stratos triggers so returned for refund.
Delivered in great condition, and everything works as expected.
no issues at all. showed up on time and works exactly like it's supposed to.
I am by no means a professional photographer but I do love taking photographs and especially of my two little ones. I have always been put off buying any sort of what I consider to be 'professional photographer kit' such as this trigger set as I didn't think that these sort of sets could be used by the non professional photographer like me. So when I was offered this set to test I decided to give it a go in the hopes that I could understand how to use it and could prove that they can be used by anyone and I am happy to say that they can and are relatively simple to use. I have a Canon EOS1100D and the trigger set fits both the hot shoe on the top of the camera and being linked to it with the included leads too. For any novice photographers like me the hot shoe is the silver metal part at the top of the camera where you would also fit a separate flash if you use one.
The Phottix Strato trigger set for Nikon comes packaged in a good holder bag, complete with all the attachments needed to connect to any current Nikon camera, both as a flash trigger and as a remote shutter trigger. It takes the same AA batteries in both units (the sender and the receiver) so, unlike a Hahnel trigger, you won't be left scratching around for a specialist disc battery. It also allows TTL metering and a degree of control of a single flash. However, it doesn't support Nikon's Creative Light System (CLS) and doesn't work at all on non-Nikon cameras, although it works fine triggering studio flash lights. It functions on four channels of radio, rather than on light, which is how the CLS flash triggering works.
