I was in need of a good tripod with a fluid drag head for video and am glad that I came across this! This tripod is nice and sturdy, and the fluid drag head allows me to get really smooth panning shots that I haven't been able to get before. While there are other, more expensive tripods out there, this one performs amazing for the price and I am genuinely happy with it! The 22 lb rated weight capacity is nice and covers every lens I have with my Canon 5D Mark ii, along with my field monitor with absolutely no problems. It folds up to 24 inches and fits nicely back in the zip bag/case that is provided with it. It's got an adjustable strap on the case that makes carrying it around nice.
Overall, you can't go wrong with this tripod setup, especially if you're on a budget... you won't be disappointed!
TL; DR: This tripod is very strong, durable, and can let you position your lens at ANY angle you want
This tripod is made with thick casted aluminum alloy, not flimsy hollowed tubes like other mini tripods. This also makes it a bit heavier, which is important to hold bigger cameras. That said, you cannot extend the tripod's legs, they are fixed position.
I've tested it with my Sony α6300 and a long zoom lens 18-200mm. It survived 2 very hard postion: 1. Camera lens at horizontal level, between 2 legs of the tripod. 2. Camera lens at below horizontal level, at maximum tilt of the tripod (theoretically can tilt to -90 degree from ground, but it was impossible with a long 200mm zoom lens), and the lens aligned with one of the legs.
So from those I could conclude that if I have my lens tilt up any angle, I can rotate it anyway I want.
Unfortunately, the tripod cannot stand the veritical camera position (it can with smaller lenses though), nor the hardest position: camera lens tilt down, between 2 legs
I did not receive any discount for this review. I just want to review because I see other brand selling a similar tripod (CS 50) for 70% more ($35) but I know many products on Amazon are just the same China products rebranded differently, so 5-star reviewed brands do not mean better product, they just mean you pay more for the brand.
I got this for my wife, for her to use making videos for her work. I'm not a professional photographer, so this will be in layman's terms for those like me. Pros: -Price point. It's half the cost of equivalent tripods. It's holding a camera, not an elephant. -Weight. It's very lightweight, and when collapsed, is very compact as well. A definite plus. Which leads me to -Materials. Aluminum legs, and what appears to be polycarbonate snaps and midsection. These materials lead to a very lightweight build. -Motion and adjustments. The fluid motion system is awesome. It really is "fluid", it moves smooth as silk. And you can change the weight required to move it, to your liking.
Cons: -The materials might not be suitable for some. I like lightweight, others might want to pay more for steel or something. Like I said, it's to hold a camera, so for me, it doesn't need to be huge and bulky.
Overall: Definitely happy. Wife loves it, so a good buy. No issues :)
There are some special requirements for a tripod that is used for video. Because camera movements often occur during shooting, the tripod must prove those movements smoothly, as any jerkyness will end up looking terrible in your captured video. That makes a versatile fluid head like the one provided with this tripod an essential component. It has tension adjustments so you can restrict the movement of panning and other movements for best effect. The removable pan/tilt head as locking knobs to secure the position of the head. This is a sturdy tripod, made of alluminum, very rigid, and can easily handle gear weighing more than 20 pounds if you happen to be shooting video with a dSLR or mirrorless camera equipped with a cage and attachments like an external monitor or recorder. It collapses down to 26 inches and stores in the supplied bag. The feet swivel for secure footing on any surface. The quick release plate is plastic, but seems rugged enough, and detaches quickly using a mechanism that is similar to that used by the Manfrotto QR system.
