You observe the night sky, but are you also interested in observing the Sun? The solar filter lets you also do astronomy during the day! And the best part is that, if you have a basic telescope, it fits directly onto the lens. And you can get started right away with your solar observing!
For what and for whom is this solar filter suitable?
This filter is fantastic for when you want to observe sunspots and solar flares and also for observing granulation on the surface of the Sun. It is also great for observing solar eclipses - it is breath-taking watching the Moon gradually obscure the Sun's disc.
The Astromania basic solar filter comes already assembled in a plastic frame. That means that you will not have to tinker around or construct anything. This filter makes it simplicity itself for you to use - just attach it to your telescope and it already fits perfectly.
This solar filter is made using a special filter foil that provides you with a neutral white image of the Sun. With a filter factor of 100,000 times, only 0.001% of the sunlight entering the telescope reaches your eye, which means you can always observe the Sun in perfect safety.
The Sun always shows some exciting detail. Keep a record of the spots and flares with your camera and become a solar photographer. You can also keep track of how an entire sunspot group evolves. Nothing could be easier! By the way - the matching adapter for your particular telescope can be found in our accessories section.
Bought for using on my Celestron Nexstar 114GT to view the solar eclipse on 8-21-2017. Fit perfectly and works great. This Mylar filter is an inexpensive alternative to a pricey glass filter. Read the measurements in the picture before ordering. It was the exact dimensions of my telescope cap, so it fit like it was made for it.
I purchased this filter for my 114mm Meade Polaris and it did not fit at all. It was way too small. After checking around, I saw that you need to be very careful about the size of the filter from this company. They make several different sizes. Measure your scope carefully before ordering. Unfortunately, I waited too long to try this on my scope and I was unable to exchange it.
While using the filter by itself, I seem to have issues seeing anything worth a dam. It would seem that the solar screen blocks anything halfway visible.
I would have given this "5" stars, but without instructions, I'm not sure I'm using it properly! It doesn't seem to fit my telescope, and I don't want to loosen any screws on the telescope, if it's not necessary. Perhaps a simple diagram or picture of the Filter in place would be helpful. Thx, Tony
I bought this for a Celestron 114LCM. It does not fit properly... its prone to fall out unless secured with painters tape. Gravity will keep it in place for the most part when viewing the Sun but securing it with tape needs to be mentioned because it can fall out easily.
Purchased it to view the Mercury transit the picture says it all. It arrived just in time.
This item was purchased as a gift but my brother loves it
Very good product.
