I recently bought this inexpensive remote shutter release and I love it. I can’t wait to take it with me in the field. It will come in handy for group shots (where I am in the photo too), long exposures, and anything that requires a series of interval shots. At first, I thought I had a problem with the device sleeping, but after using it a lot, I discovered that it behaves just like the shutter button on my camera. After about 4 minutes of inactivity my camera goes to sleep. It takes one button press to wake up the camera, which is identical to the behavior on the Viltrox Remote Shutter, for my camera. I have to press the button and wake up the camera.

I love that I do not need to set the drive mode on the camera to utilize this remote shutter. With my old Canon remote, I had to set the drive mode to remote shutter, which is also the timer mode. It’s very easy to forget to set the camera back to regular drive mode, see a perfect shot, and have the camera count off for 15 seconds instead of taking your photo. Yep, I’ve learned to not leave my remotes on and drain their batteries, but I can’t seem to learn to put the camera back into non-remote or timer mode to save my life.

The little Canon remote has 2 basic functions, and that’s it. The range is not very good, and it requires complete line of site. The Viltrox Remote Shutter on the other hand does not need line of sight, and appears to go at least twenty feet, possibly more. I can even set the timer to take the shot to whenever I want. This will come in handy for group shots. You have to be careful that you do not see movement from the person holding the remote and pressing the button in your shot.

The Viltrox remote shutter has indicator lights where you need them. One on the remote indicates half button presses by turning green, or full shutter release button presses by turning red. For troubleshooting, there is also a button on the receiver. This lets you know that the receiver is in fact connected to the camera and functioning as you would expect it. I am sure there is another purpose, but if I am going to press the button that is sitting on my camera, I might as well use the real shutter button.

A cool feature is that I can use the remote and connect it directly to the camera without any additional parts. This is a great idea. I assume with 4 different channels on the remote and receiver that interference shouldn’t be a problem, but you never know. This way I can connect the remote directly to my camera and skip the wireless. While I don’t know this to be true, I would imagine the batteries in the remote last much longer in this mode.

For the people that experienced issues with the remote release shutter not working right away, I would try and duplicate the issue with auto-focus turned off (set to manual focus) just to rule out any issues with focusing. Also, make sure your camera is not going to sleep, causing you to have to use the remote to wake the camera first.

h purchases item to utilize with Canon EO S T7 I for night photography shoot while this remote portion of the device worked as expected I found it difficult to change settings on the fly with the provided remote. In addition the sensor for the remote mounts on the shoe of the camera, thereby occluding the built-in flash of the camera.

This was pretty inconvenient, as I was looking to do long exposure photographs but utilize the flash at the beginning of exposure. The price was right, and I obviously didn't return it because of the price.

In wireless mode, even if I set the transmitter to take several shots at timed intervals, the receive would only direct the camera to take 1 single shot no matter what. In wired mode, if I want to take a long exposure shot with the shutter release button on the transmitter, I can't set it to the Hold position no matter how hard I try to push it to the Hold position. Don't buy. Plain garbage.

I only need this to remote trigger single and 3 shot bursts for AEB. I tested it's working range to be around 70' which is amazing as I only need it to work to about 25 feet. I tried reading the instructions and have no clue what they are talking about as they say things like" hold X button for 2 seconds to make it perform X function" and I tried several functions like that and nothing ever happened when holding down a button for 2 to 10 ceconds, except the beep button. I was able to make this silent. No big deal as I don't need the other features. I would buy this again!

Sole issue was that it did not come with a cable that fit my canon T3. I just needed a stereo mini male plug on both ends and I was up and running. Not sure what the 2 cable it came with go to but 1 looks like a PC sync that my camera doesn't have.

I ordered this product because the title, and description both state that this is compatible with the Canon T7i. I received the product got it out and went through the instructions to hook it up to my camera to learn it doesn't come with the cable to work with the Canon T7i. I am VERY disappointed at the misleading information and WILL be returning this item asap.

This is the second Viltrox, that one is for the Canon T6i, after, maybe 1 year still works like new; the second one, that I just got, is for the Canon 77D, easy to set up and is working without any problem.
Will buy again without any hesitation.

In order to use this on my camera I would need a c3connector I recneived a c1 cable Otherwise the product is read.y to go

Gave 3 stars because the first one I ordered failed after a couple of test fires. That being said, Amazon's customer service was great! They sent me a new one and I had it within a day.

This shutter release is ok for the the price. Does what it should. The only complaints I have are, 1.) It won't work if you have back button focus enabled on your camera. It's a pain to keep switching my camera setting each time I use it. 2.) Sometimes the shutter button is a bit too sensitive and will fire if my finger brushes the button. Other than that it does work.
