For the money, this tripod is okay. 3 stars is just that, it's okay. Not bad. Not great.

For the purposes of holding something up, whether it be a camera, spotting scope, whatever, and if there are NO adverse conditions such as wind, I think you'll be okay.

I used this tripod on two separate occasions:

DSLR camera- There was no wind, it's a lighter DSLR, and the tripod did it's job.

Spotting scope- There was a slight breeze that day. The entire setup was shaking like crazy.

I think the reason why it was shaking, and might not be appropriate for more delicate work, or long-term durability, is due to it's construction quality. The tolerances are not very tight, and the important parts are made of plastic, which allows for wiggles and things which don't help stability.

Again, if used for lightweight items like a camera, and there isn't wind, and you're not using it all the time, I think this will be fine.

I upgraded my tripod from the absolute cheapest tripod money could buy to this one, and I'm very pleased. The legs feel sturdy. Its tall enough for me to use standing up (i'm 5'8"). And the pistol-grip ball-joint is amazing! I'll never go back to a three-axis tripod head. I use this mostly for backpacking, and its easy to strap to my backpack. Its about the lightest i could find in the price range with a ball-head.

The only reason I give this 4 stars rather than 5 is because the quick-release latch seems to be giving out after just a few uses. When it was new, the latch clicked shut with a lot of force. It made you feel confident that your camera was locked into the tripod. Now after a few uses, the latch doesn't close all the way on its own. It closes 95% and needs some help to go the last 5%. It'll still hold the camera in, but I'm worried about whether it will hold if I try to relocate with the camera latched in. Time will tell. I'll update if it changes.

Works for an 8 lb, spotting though frame is light. Does need weight at center of tripod for a solid hold. Price is right for what it does and what it is.

This is an OK tripod. The head was a little stiff. I took it apart and cleaned it. I will be using some dry lubricant as well. The bag is more of a nuisance than anything else. I don't think I would call it "Pro" but it is OK. I am using it as a second tripod using a secondary camera to the main one.

I attached a cell phone mounting clip and use this for my iPhone, since I don't have a DSLR. Works great for taking time-lapse or panning for a video or panorama. Comes with a nice nylon bag with carrying strap. I keep it in my trunk so it's always available.

Great tripod, decent price. For basic needs it works well, has two levels so you can keep everything flat and the pistol-head is way better than not having one. It's adjustability is almost limitless for its size and you'll probably never have issues getting the angle you want.

Good sturdy, well made tripod. Still perfect after a year of hard use.

Sturdy but has some difficulty locking where I put it with my heavy spotting scope. Handle is easy to use. Quick release is a little sloppy. I was hoping for more rigidity. It is well built and for something lighter like my camera I think it will be just right.
