This Sony filter has a plastic mount but the filter is coated well enough such that i have not experienced flares or other issues.
I actually compared this Sony clear filter with a Heliopan 77mm Digital Filter which is over $300 US Dollars. I mounted both on a Sony A99 with Sony 135mm 1.8 (one of Sony's sharpest) on a tripod and shot test charts. There is a slight contrast difference between the two filters. The Heliopan had better contrast. But, it is not the level of improvement where i could not have increased easily with my RAW or JPEG files in Photoshop or Lightroom.
Comparing both results with a naked 135mm 1.8, the resolution was actually better with the Sony clear than with the $300 Heliopan. The naked lens yield the best resolution, but again, this was a test pattern chart. Normal people do not take charts pictures for a living. I since returned the Heliopan.

More recently, I compared the Sony clear with my old favorite the B+W 77mm XS-Pro Clear with Multi-Resistant Nano Coating (007M). I found the results to be nearly exactly the same.
The Sony clear appears more transparent to the naked eye. A white sheet of paper under window light illustrates what i am saying. The B+W is metal mount but it is also nearly 70% or more in price.

If you want more serious protection against occasional bumps and knocks, go with the B+W 77mm XS-Pro Clear with Multi-Resistant Nano Coating (007M), otherwise for everyday dust and fingers protection, the Sony clear is good enough.

A naked lens is still the best way to go.

Good Sony/ Zeiss T* clear lens protector. Not a filter, but a good lens protector that does not seem to diminish the incoming light to the sensor. I’m using it with a Sony RX10 IV. The camera’s cap, and lens hood all fit on fine with the lens protector installed.

I just bought this to go on my new $700 16-50 sony lens. Second day out taking pictures my camera took a direct hit. The lens protector shattered but protected the expensive lens like it was meant to do. Better a $69 lens protector rather than a $700 lens. Will be ordering another one.

Quality I expect from Pro Grade Sony

Good

Excellent anti-reflective coating. Exactly as I expected.
