ANATOMY OF A PELICAN CASE

Ultimate Equipment Protection

For over 30 years Pelican has built a reputation for manufacturing the toughest cases in the world. As a matter of fact, we invented the category. Over these years we've seen our cases used for some fairly crazy activities...and important ones too.

Pelican Cases have been thrown out of helicopters in Iraq, floated through frigid fjords in Norway and rolled over by SUVs in Tanzania. With only a few scratches to show on the outside, contents inside are left unscathed. These are minor details for major bragging rights. And that is really what it's all about. Getting your gear from point A to point B in the condition it's meant to be in: intact and functional. Because it might contain a large format camera that will shoot next month's magazine cover or a heart defibrillator that could save a person's life, you can't put a price on it.

Truck on case

Stronger by Design

Pelican Cases are made with a proprietary combination of homo co-polymers, using an open cell core and solid wall construction, which is stronger and lighter than a solid core wall. Stainless steel pins are used in hinges and handles.

Watertight

Watertight

The secret is the tongue and groove fit with a polymer o-ring acting as a waterproof seal.

Valve

Cool Under Pressure

Automatic Pressure Equalization Valve releases built-up air pressure while keeping water molecules out, resulting in a watertight case that is even easier to open.

Easy Roller

Easy Roller

Stainless steel ball bearing wheels last longer and ride smoother. The nylon hub adjacent to the stainless steel is made to resist heat. The result is less wear and tear on the polyurethane wheel.

Double throw latch

Double-Throw Latches

Stainless steel hasp protectors are a Pelican exclusive. The Double-Throw latches are smarter and easier to open: it's the classic "C" clamp design with a secondary movement that works like a pry bar to start the release and offers plenty of leverage to open with a light pull.

Nameplate

Nameplate

Custom engraved nameplates are available for a nominal fee.

Padlock protector

Reinforced Padlock Protectors

Stainless steel reinforced padlock protectors provide added strength and extra security against cutting and theft.

I found that the Pelican 1560 case with foam has been a very good case for my camera equipment as it keeps it all went in reach whenever I need it in the field with all lenses and cameras within reach. I do think that the lid is hard to close I am not sure why but will live with it, the next one may not have that problem, Do I recommend it, Yes.

Overall, the 1560 has the normal Pelican quality. I use this case to transport about 25lbs of gear. The rolling function makes this easy. I reduced my rating by one star because of the strength of the non-latch ends. When lifting by the end handle (located on the top) the seem pops open, exposing what's inside to whatever dirt or moisture happens to be around. Side latches would have prevented this. This may seem picky, but lifting the case from the top handle is a natural action, say after rolling the case up to the back of your vehicle. To keep the case sealed I have to use the side handle - which defeats the whole purpose of having a handle on top.

Things I really like: The hinges are sort of "staged," so the lid will stay up. This is nice because it then doesn't strain the hinges as sometimes happens when the lid falls backward.

The case is far larger than I had expected, and it might actually be TOO large for my uses. I had a hard time finding something that was big enough to have a handle and wheels. It is very deep, too, and the pick-and-pluck comes in two separate layers that are a few inches each. They are easily cut with a very sharp knife and retain most of their integrity even when cut to be fairly thin, so, as long as you keep a width of at least two "blocks" between separate cut-outs/voids in the case, the foam is fairly strong. Only thing I dislike is the wobbly extension handle (like a wheely suitcase)-- it seems sturdy enough but it is very flexible, and I'm wondering how it will hold up if the case is jammed full of heavy stuff. Still a five-star deal all around. :)

If you're doubting yourself, don't. I have purchased many off-brand cases and they just don't do the trick. Off-brand cases are usually noticeably less durable, harder to lock, and cheesy design flaws. After purchasing so many off-brands, I finally switched to Pelican.

The 1560 is one of my all-time favorites. The size is perfectly between the 1510+ and 1600 series. It still only has the two latches in the front, but it seals like its supposed to. I use all kinds of locks from TSA to FortLocks.

The pluck-n-pull system is only good if you know your storage items won't be changing. I would recommend the padded inserts with the lid organizer to match. It's versatile and less "messy" than the chunky cubes from the pluck-n-pull falling all over the place!

Overall, you should see this product as an investment. It WILL protect your valuable items inside. This brand has earned my trust.

I couldn't be happier. I used Pelican cases throughout my entire military career and now as a photographer. They have never failed, absolutely the best and worth the money.

I highly recommend the pluck n pull foam for perfect customization. I have placed every bit of photography gear i own in one case. After about 4 months of hauling it to every shoot location I have bought another for more my gear. It just works.

Don't let your valuable equipment bounce around and get ruined, invest wisely in your business.

Pelican has become the standard in cases, to which all others are compared, and for good reason. They are well built, water-proof, and the included foam allows a custom fit for the items inside. I feel I could drop this case from the loading platform and it would easily protect the contents. This particular case is a bit heavy, so the included retractable handle and wheels make for easy transport. They are a bit pricey, but when you want the best protection, these cases are well worth the price. I'm using this case for my audio mixer and accessories, and feel confident that they are well protected. Moving them from our practice space to gigs is easy as everything fits in one place. Highly recommended.

Fantastic case! I also have the Pelican 1510 w/padded dividers, but now that I'm doing more and more video I needed a larger case. This case is the perfect size for me--large enough to handle all my gear, but not so big that when it's fully loaded I can't carry it! I've been using Pelican cases for over 30 years now, and I've never had a single problem with them. As a photographer/videographer/filmmaker, I travel extensively and often to very remote locations, and I know that my Pelican cases are going to protect my gear and get everything there in one piece. Oh, be sure to get the padded dividers--once you try them you'll never go back to the pick and pluck foam because you can change the layout all time for different gear without having to buy new (and expensive) foam sets every time. Lastly, the lid organizer for this and other Pelican cases is a great add-on, really helps to organize those small items like flash cards, lens cleaner, lens caps, batteries, etc. The only complaint I've ever had about Pelican is their price, but if you shop around you can get good deals, and, these things are built to last forever!

I use this case as a tool box and I have no complaints took the foam out as it would get wrecked in about two days with my line of work. use it as an ultra tough toolbox and meets all my expectations. constantly in and out of vans / trucks with nothing more than the occasional scrape.

Excellent design, super dependable with your expensive cargo.

I've been patronizing Pelican for decades since I discovered them to protect my diving equipment.

Then I used them for my photography and gun equipment.

Then i used these for about anything when traveling.

These are the best built hard case you can get without question in terms of performance and durability.

This latest case was purchased to house the Ikan teleprompter which Ikan was selling their own branded hard case, but I opted to trust Pelican once again. The dimensions were similar and the teleprompter case was a drop in to this Pelican case. There was a bit more room for this, but it also allows me to house the iPad purchased for the teleprompter as well as manual and charging accessories.

Highly recommended. I wouldn't go for any other brand.

The case is awesome....

it cost me about 49k... it came with padded dividers but without a lid organizer.
I then saw another seller on amazon selling the same case with a lid organizer for 53 k...

The lid organizer costs about 10 to 12 k when bought separately.... I feel like I lost on a good deal.
But the case is good, seller was always prompt with responses everytime I contacted them.

For the price could came with foam and organizer on lid
