I'm and audiophile with a good background of hi-end equipment and this is an amazing little dac unit, excellent sound quality and value for money, the optical does work, I've noticed some comments in some reviews saying there is no sound through the optical link up but it works great and again sound is excellent, "probably its a case of some people don't know what there doning" would highly recommend and take no notice of some reviews on here.

Punches well above it's price, money well spent

Fantastic DAC, very musical and accurate. Might be the last DAC you ever buy.

I can’t say enough about this seller and the Topping E30.
Seller: Outstanding customer service. The seller worked with me immediately to update my order when I wanted to make a change and contacted me to ensure that delivery was confirmed. They have been very quick to respond to emails and they are personable. Kudos and highly recommended!
E30: Has been everything I wanted and more. The manual is a bit sparse but then usage is very straight forward, the manual was only needed to figure out how to switch the E30 output mode from "Pre" to "DAC" mode. Visually the E30 looks great and the build quality is remarkably high. As for the performance: simply, it has been amazing. I can detect no noise and the presented detail and transparency is making me rediscover my best quality recordings. I had been using LMS with a Squeezebox since 2006 which eventually had a display failure. I updated to a Raspberry Pi 4 using Max2Play to provide the transport software to this DAC, and I am extremely happy with the result, I have no issues and stability has been perfect. I cannot believe that this DAC can sell for this price.
I have nothing but the highest recommendation for the Topping E30 and the seller.

A dac, not a “desktop” dac. I run my $6500 Amp and speakers off this dac and couldn’t be happier.
This dac fed through usb, sounds better than my sabre 9010 based dac fed from chromecast with optical. No comparison. Digital is digital? Ya i guess. But the outputs are analogue, no matter how good the chips are, the output requires careful design and good parts. And this dac has a great sound.
Deep blacks make the beats sound snappier, and like they have “prat”. and it’s very enjoyable on low volume due to the lower noise floor. A slight “tube” quality if i had to use that misnomer, makes my quite revealing system very listenable.
One major hifi brand is releasing a cd player this year, that will probably be about 800$. And has the ak 4490 chip. This has the superior 4493. Not in itself a big deal, but a better (more expensive) chip in a 600$ less expensive machine. Sans the cd transport.
No brainer imo.
