Just received this a couple days ago. It paired easily with my cell phone and seemed to function as described. The range seemed to be pretty decent as well. However....I only tested it for a few minutes to make sure it worked. I took this, and my stereo equipment to my brother in laws house for a graduation party. I kept losing sound on my left speaker when I first hooked everything up. Thinking it was a bad speaker wire connection, I kept fiddling with those. Low and behold, after about a half hour of messing around with the speaker wires I realized that it wasn't those after all but rather the supplied RCA cables that come with this unit. I pulled them off and looked at them (I hadn't before this) these connectors on the RCA end have got to be the cheapest made connectors I've ever seen. I honestly don't think you could even find such poor quality connectors in any store even if you tried to. The connectors are made of VERY and I mean VERY thin, cheap metal. I tried crimping it so the connector was tighter and that worked for a little while until a little too much bass eventually disconnected it yet again. You touch the damn cable and it goes out, touch it again, back on. I wish I had brought my own cables I already had! Do not count on these supplied cables! Either have your own or go purchase some decent quality ones! From the looks of them, you could probably get better quality from the dollar store. If you don't need them as soon as you buy this unit, you eventually will. A decent unit though minus the absolute garbage, unusable cables they give you.
Have only had this little unit for a couple of days, but it is just what I was looking for! Really like that it is rechargeable, as I would rather have that attribute than have another full-time plug and cable to clutter up the room with.
Will report back with updates as time moves on.
Update: 3/30/2017 After a few times where the connection to my devices seemed to suffer from interference, or just not a solid enough connection, I have found this: Before turning the Etekcity Wireless BT 4.0 Receiver on, I make sure my device, in this case my iPhone, has bluetooth enabled (ON). Then, when turning the BT Receiver on, it automatically connects to the iPhone, and is ready to stream. Doing it this way, whether it's just me, or it really is a better way to connect, get me perfect streaming, a solid connecting, with no break up, or interference. This little BT receiver is still a five star product, for me! Love it!
It's a Bluetooth receiver. It does exactly what you would expect it to do. Hence why I left it 5 stars. In all seriousness (for those who are actually using my review to make an informed decision) it does great work. I live in an apartment from the 40's and the walls are made out of plaster and typically Bluetooth devices have a hard time getting the signal through but as far as I can tell this receiver does a good job of relaying sound to my speakers in an unbroken manner.
I purchased the Etekcity Wireless Bluetooth audio receiver mainly to use in my car. Before purchasing this I was useing a male to male 3.5mm jack and plugging one end into my cell phone (yes, my cell phone has an audio jack) and the other end into my car's stereo. I would then have to tune the car radio to the AUX channel to play my music and podcasts. It worked as a system, but could get to be a clutter of wires at times, with the power cable and the 3.5 mm cable in the car. The worst part of the setup was the shielding on the 3.5 mm cable wasn't very good, so I would always hear some sort of hum while driving, reving the engine, or idling. I also got a fair amount of static over the channel. I bought this to simplify my life, reduce the number of cables in my car, and get a clearer sound. This unit has done all of that, exceeding my expectations.
Out of the box uou notice that the Etekcity Wireless Bluetooth audio receiver unit is small, by my eye like 1.5" x 1.5" x 1" and it weighs almost nothing. In the box is the unit itself, a USB power cord, a 110V plug with a receiver for the aforementioned USP power cord, and then two different cords to for plugging into speakers directly or a stereo system. There's the 3.5 mm headphone jack, and the other cord splits into the left/right red and white audio connectors so that you can attach the device to an stereo receiver.
Since I'm only using this in my car I just use the 3.5mm audio jack connected to the unit itself. After taking everything out of the box and reading the directions, I changed the receiver for a few hours before heading out to my car. You turn on the bluetooth receiver by pressing the larce circular button on the face of the device for about 8/10 seconds. When it turns on, it makes an audible 'do-daa' kinda noise to let you know. After turning it on for the first time I turned on my phones Bluetooth. I've got a Google Pixel phone which is known to not have the best Bluetooth paring, so I don't know if the trouble I had with the initial pairing was with the phone oe the Etekcity, but it was very, VERY difficult to pair. After about 10 minutes of trying, I FINALLY got the phone and receiver to pair. That't been the ONLY time I've had problems pairing my phone and the receiver. Aftert that I just turn on the bluetooth receiver, turn on my phones Bluetooth, and bam! they pair with no problems. FYI, the device's Bluetooth name is "UNITY". at least it in on my phone.
What's even better about this new setup in my car is that I no longer hear the annoying buzzing sound from the 3.5mm audio cable when driving. The sound is clean and crisp. When my phone and the Elekcity pair, the volume output on my phone automatically drops to about 60% of the full volume, no matter where the volume was previously. I think this is a nice little touch so that you don't blow your ears out when connecting the two devices. I honestly can't think of a single thing wrong with this. I rarely give 5 star reviews to anything, but this has earned it's 5 star review.
Have no fear when purchasing the Elekcity Bluetooth audio receiver. The ratings are correct.
First off when I received the package, the box was high quality like getting a high end smart phone and it was packaged great so that the product was spotless. Then it came with all the cables I needed including a 3.5mm to RCA which is an amazing touch. I read the instructions in less than a minute and had it up and running in less than a minute after that. It works really well and in fact up to 50 feet where I use it sometimes. The only thing I dislike about it is having to turn it on all the time but I guess it's a good thing because I wouldn't want my neighbors to be able to turn it on randomly. Thanks Etekcity for an amazing product, I wish everything I bought was this good!
I had a nice 2.1 Surround sound Set of speakers lying around and have been wanting to convert them to a Bluetooth setup for quite some time now. When I saw this I jumped at the opportunity, excited to revive the life of my abandoned but not forgotten bangers. I cannot say I could be more impressed with how awesome this tiny device is, gotta love technology.
Product arrived in a sleek looking box as pictured below. Opening it up revealed a very nice packaging job - reminiscent of me un-boxing an iPhone. I was surprised by how small the device is, as it fits on the tips of my fingers. It is JUST wide enough to fit in the audio and usb ports. Box came with an RCA audio converter, regular aux wire, USB wall plug and wire, and the main unit of course.
The range on the Bluetooth is awesome, I have the unit in my living room and I control the music from my bedroom without any issues. If you put too many walls between yourself/phone/audio device and the speaker/Bluetooth receiver setup you will experience lag, but this is normal with any Bluetooth device.
I found the battery life to be extensive as well - I got even over the 10 hours advertised! All-in-all, I would definitely recommend this product to anyone thinking of converting their speakers to a Bluetooth setup as I have, or even for adding Bluetooth to your old car deck! 10/10! Thank you Etekcity!!
Jesus lord this thing is awesome for the price. Lasts 6 hours +, dead simple to pair and unpair. Range is 15-25 feet, though of course that's less if its through walls/other obstructions. Connection is usually rock solid, with the only significant drops in certain areas of a densely populated city (not sure what causes that interference?) My only complaint, and its a minor one, is that it takes a long time to power down when holding the button. But if there'a better bluetooth receiver at this price, I haven't found it. Its so good it'll probably raise the dead one day.
We bought the Etekcity Mini RoverBeats Unify Wireless Bluetooth Receiver to connect our tablet and iPod to our 5.1 home theatre. We wanted to be able to play the music through the speakers attached to our home theatre loud enough so we could hear it through the house. The bluetooth receiver was shipped with all the necessary cables and an external charger. The manual is clearly written and the instructions are simple enough to follow. I just have to turn on the system, wait a little, press the flashing button on the receiver and voila, my music is now playing through the house using the Bluetooth. It works really well and we can't hear any noise sounds that would be generated by the device in the speakers which is fantastic for a bluetooth device. At this price, it’s quite a steal and you won’t be sacrificing your sound quality. Great purchase, happy customers.
BUY WITH CONFIDENCE
I am over the top happy with this purchase. The RoverBeats has saved me buying many different items. As you can see from my photo I use it in the car to play music from my iPhone. I was looking at buying a Bose Bluetooth speaker for this. I'm so glad I didn't.
It's gets better for me. Now any wired headset becomes a wireless set. I can use my favourite headphones and don't have to go buy wireless ones. This will come in handy when cutting the lawn as now the phone can remain on a table and I don't have to worry about dropping it and cutting it.
This unit is going to extend the life of many devices I was thinking about replacing. Many different uses.
The sound is wonderful. It's clear, never cuts out, provides full range. This is well worth the money.
