Thought this product was going to be perfect. It's slim, premium materials, looks sleek, etc. Bought this specifically for the USB Type-C port so that I can charge it with the same charger in my backpack. I can charge my laptop, phone, Switch, headphones, battery, flashlight, etc.
I got this and the first thing I did is went to charge it. Instant fail. Apparently this thing only takes the low charge from USB A to C cables. My USB Type-C chargers won't charge. It will only charge with that, meaning a lot of the USB C chargers just won't charge the device.... completely rendering it's usefulness at not increasing the amount of chargers I need in my life.
I didn't even have to pair with my phone at that point, the thing very well could sound amazing, but what is the point of USB C if you still need a USB A charger and can't use the same USB C cable every other device takes?
I've bought A LOT of USB Type-C devices, and have only ever run into this issue on the cheapest of Chinese import devices. This was my first Harmon Kardon product, but I had heard of the brand and thought they were premium, I honestly couldn't believe a product that feels like such nice build quality would cheap out so hard on the internals.

First impression out of the box was that this thing is tiny -- not much larger than my iPhone 8 (not even the plus). Second impression was "wow, this is the nicest looking Bluetooth speaker I've ever seen!".
The battery was dead as a proverbial doornail out of the box so had to plug it in right off the bat. Fortunately, it can be used while charging so that didn't slow me down.
I listen primarily to classical music and the first thing I did was put on the Bach Double Violin concerto. I was really surprised that you could actually hear the separation of the violins. You wouldn't think you would have a separation of sound stage on something smaller than your hand.
Next I put on a piano concerto. The lower registers of the piano had a nice "growl" like you would expect out of a real piano. The upper registers were clear without being harsh and the mids were there as well -- so a nice even sound.
Unlike most bluetooth speakers that are optimized to throw out a lot of base, this speaker opts for clarity and detail instead... I guess they are catering to those of us not into muddy bass at the expense of musicality and detail.
This will also get plenty loud but if you are relying on a tiny little speaker to play loud -- you are probably not using this speaker for its optimal purpose.
What is the optimal purpose? Working in an office, cooking dinner, washing dishes, playing cribbage, reading, getting ready for work in the morning.
If you want vibrating bass -- go look at the UE or Beats lines -- both of those speakers do emphasize bass over all else. However, if you want clarity in a small compact package and sophisticated look, this is a neat little speaker.

The first gen was fantastic and this one is even better. I love this speaker for its rich sound, small package and it can be used as a battery for your phone in a pinch. Versatility and class.
|
I have one for my desk because of this COVID situation and then I got one for my bedroom.
Buyers beware: Don't hook your phone into it to charge it. Otherwise the speakers will continue to cut off randomly.
Aside from that, the speakers work great. I used them for teleconferences, listening to podcasts and listening to music. I can hear things loud and clear and people hear me with no issues using these speakers. Also beautiful and I love the kickstand for it.

For the price, I felt like the sound quality was very poor and tinny. The size and portability are great, but I'm returning it. I've had HK speakers before and been impressed with the sound, but definitely NOT this time. My iPhone sounds at least as good and almost as much volume.

Hi. I listen mostly to R & B . Sound quality is excellent for the size. I have the Bose soundlink 1 , soundlink mini and the soundlink mini 2 . It’s not fair to compare them as they double and even triple in size and weight. The esquire does have better clarity and the base. Well it is what it is for the size. It’s well made and stylish. You can’t have it all unfortunately. Great fun

Simple blue tooth connection, just turn it on as long as you have your Bluetooth active. Instantaneous. The base is a little low but good enough if played at a lower volume overall.
|
Very happy with the speaker. The echo cancellation speakerphone is a great feature that allows me to only carry one device for work travel. The fact that it is a mobile charger and good quality speaker are really bonuses.

Initially was very pleased with this. Excellent portability, great phone speaker. Reasonable for music, given the poor bass, which is expected from a speaker this size.
Within a couple of weeks, the volume control is no longer working, however! Impossible to reduce the volume either manually or through the Bluetooth connection.
Very disappointing at this price point and for this brand.
