About Nintendo's DS
The best-selling video game system in the world grabs attention with a splash of color and looks good whether its toted in your school backpack, pulled from your purse, or riding with you on a family trip. The new Pokémon-themed Nintendo DS handheld game system joins Polar White, Coral Pink, Onyx, Crimson/Black, and Cobalt/Black.
The Nintendo DS Lite is a high-powered handheld video game system in a sleek folding design loaded with features for a unique gaming experience. The color screens are now even brighter and the lower touch screen provides a totally new way of playing and controlling games. Use the built-in wireless mode to share games, chat or even play multiplayer games on-line via Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection. Play impressive 3-D rendered Nintendo DS games and play all your favorite Game Boy Advance games in single player mode. Nintendo DS Lite comes with a variety of distinctive changes that set it apart from the original: Its less than two-thirds the size of the original Nintendo DS and more than 20 percent lighter. Its two bright screens can be adjusted to four levels to adapt to different lighting conditions and to extend battery power. The microphone sits in the center of the unit and the LED lights are clearly visible whether the unit is open or closed. The stylus is 1 centimeter longer and 1 millimeter thicker than the stylus of the original and slides into a side storage slot. The Start and Select buttons were repositioned for easier access. A removable cover keeps the Game Boy Advance cartridge slot clear from dust and debris when its not in use. With the Nintendo DS Headset, you can talk and chat over Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection or voice command games.
With Nintendo DS Lite, dual screens and touch-screen technology allow you to interact with games like never before. Wireless communication allows you to experience real-time multiplayer gameplay, and the free Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection service allows you to compete against players from around the globe.
Two incredibly bright LCD screens offer one of the most groundbreaking gameplay advances ever developed. Each 3-inch screen can reproduce a true 3D view, with impressive 3D renderings that can surpass images displayed on the Nintendo 64.
Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection:
Ready to take on the world? Now, with Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection, you can connect wirelessly, chat and play with Nintendo DS owners across the globe. All you need to play is a Nintendo DS and a Wi-Fi-ready game. There are no subscription fees -- the service is free!
Touch Screen Technology:
The lower screen offers something never before provided by any dedicated game device: touch-screen capabilities. You no longer have to rely on just buttons to move your character or shift perspectives. Navigate menus or access inventory items simply by touching the screen with a stylus or fingertip. The possibilities are limited only by developers' imaginations. The touch screen features a tougher film cover for durability, and the included stylus is stored in the back of the unit.
A built-in microphone port means that with Nintendo DS, you only need to tell your games what to do. The Nintendo DS microphone gives you even more ways to interact with your favorite games.
With Nintendo DS Lite, you can connect with a local wireless network of up to 16 players. The wireless range can be an incredible 30 to 100 feet and for some games, multiplayer requires just one Nintendo DS game card.Note:
Nintendo DS Lite wireless communication, including PictoChat, is not private and is not monitored by Nintendo. We recommend that you never reveal any personal information or arrange to meet a stranger.
Rich Stereo Sound:
Nintendo DS Lite sound capabilities allow for greatly expanded use of voices and music, and a richer, more immersive game experience. Stereo speakers allow for virtual surround sound and a plug for headphones transmits stereo sound.
Nintendo DS Lite features a separate media port for Game Boy Advance cartridges, allowing you to play all your favorite Game Boy Advance games in single-player mode.Technical Specs:

Everything came with it but i was NOT let know the stylus was going to come a different color. Also the screen fell off randomly, we noticed this day 1 that it seemed flimsy and and not sturdy. I bought this for a child so it’s very disappointing she has to have this look like that, I was expecting this to be good quality. I did not mind it was refurbished at all no problem with it but it would’ve been nice for that to have been added in the product details... Shop elsewhere.
I think this product needs to come with a better description of the used DS. I paid over $140 for something advertised in the pictures as brand new. The one i received had scratches all over the outside and inside. The top and bottom screen both have black marks on them in multiple places. The nintendogs game was used as well and playing someone used game with all of the dog spaces were full. If that's how it was going to come, I would not have paid more than $50 for. Not $130+. This needs to be better advertised so the costumer can see what they are really purchasing.
I've never had a hand held video game. I've never been too big on computer games either, but since I first heard about Brain Age type games for the Nintendo DS I have wanted one. I thought it was too expensive on my low fixed income so I just wouldn't buy it.
Then I kept reading about how as we age it is so important to challenge our brains. I have an illness that causes me cognative problems to begin with. So at 52 yrs old I finally decided to just do it. When I saw that $[...] would go to Breast Cancer Research I knew I had to get this color. It is really pretty. I like pink but the pink ones seemed more for little girls, this is just right.
I am very surprised and happy at the quality of the unit. The screen is so easy to see and very bright. I got two games to start with. Brain Challenge and Flash Focus. I was shocked at what my scores were. Yikes I should have got it a lot sooner. Both games are a challenge for me. I wish the coaches actually talked instead of the music in the background but other than that I think these two are a great start.
I am glad I went ahead and got it even though I had considered it a luxury now I consider it physical therapy and a medical need.
I didn't want some big unit to sit in my living room taking up space, I hate clutter. This is nice and small and I can take it with me, especially to doctor's apts, when I have to wait long periods of time.
If you have been holding off go ahead. I don't think you will be sorry. I heard a new one is coming out in Jan or so but I didn't need all the new extra features, or cost.
I priced the units locally and on line and they all sell for $[...] or more. Even the auction sites end up that much or more with the shipping. Here you have no tax and no shipping. You also have great customer service if something should be wrong.
I hope I start getting younger eyes and brain soon..I'm OLD now.
Initially, I purchased this along with
Planet Puzzle League
to help occupy myself and my wife on long plane flights. It's great as it can be played at reasonable volume/brightness for over 15 hours on a single charge. My wife enjoys the free games on Yahoo! and seems to enjoy playing the DS about as much. We play with it at home every now and then, though I still haven't fallen into a daily rhythm "training" with Brain Age 2. I'm a big fan of non-traditional gaming interfaces such as this and the
. I'm looking forward to trying some of the multi-user features as soon as I can convince some friends to buy one.
The only thing that has disappointed me so far is the lack of WPA encryption support when connecting to WiFi networks. The DS only supports WEP encryption, which can easily be compromised.
I haven't owned a Nintendo product since the original GameBoy came out. I have owned many other systems, and I game on my PC quite often. I bought this because I wanted something I could take with me, play at home without having to sit in a computer chair (nothing like a sofa), and I wanted games that were different than the mainstream.
PROS: This system rocks! The dual screens are easy to get used to, and once you pick up a few more games you can see how useful having dual screens is. The screens themselves look great as well. The battery life is fantastic, I've only run mine down once and that was after three days of play and not charging it. Having a touch screen really makes some games a lot more fun. The size of the game cartridge is great (like a thick SD memory card). I think the clamshell design of the unit makes it very portable and durable.
CONS: The touch screen can be a little fussy every now and again, but it's no big deal; you can recalibrate it whenever you need to. Graphics aren't as good as the Sony PSP, but I think that's Sony's main selling point. I have a PSP as well, and the load times for it are so much longer than the DS.
I'm not going to give the PSP points because it can play movies, or music, etc. etc. I wanted a game system and that's what I bought. I never play my PSP, the DS is what I pick up every time. The DS games are addicting (Brain Age 2 is a good game, but you'll want to pick up a couple more). I'm also glad I picked up this particular DS. I like the black one, and this is exactly the same except for the crimson lid.
I contemplated buying one for a month, and if you still really want one but you're just not sure if you should fork over the money...do it. It's a lot of fun.
It arrived way ahead of when it said it was going to and I'm absolutely excited to play it! Yeah, it's slightly scratched and needs a little cleaning up (there's a little bit of dust near the hinge) but it's functional, everything was included (please make sure you read which seller you're buying from because not all of them include everything, the one I ordered from did). I'm definitely happy with how everything went and I can't wait to play!
My Pokemon edition ds lite came in exactly as described! Came in very fast, it had a thank you note which was amazing. I've managed to repair the broken hinge that was mentioned in the description! So thankful to see this console again I will always keep it in my collection! & I will definitely recommend others & will buy from them & amazon again!
Fast Shipping, but console condition is terrible. Battery drain very fast. Scratches on both front and back of the handheld console. No package at all (no box no manual). All those haven’t clearly indicated in the items description. Very disappointed.
It was supposed to be bundeled with the Zelda game and the game didn't come? I paid 100 for a used, scratched ds lite. Thanks
