Absolutely horrible. They updated it a few times and it seemed to get better after the first two, but then it was right back where it started somehow. I could write a whole book about the problems so i will just list a few off. Do not get me wrong, I want this game to be good SO bad, and it would be if they would fix some of the major issues, but there may be too many.
-Water doesnt move or go up your tires unless you go all the way under,
-riders legs literally go inside the bike on DLC bikes,
-computer (AI) riders are the worst ive ever seen and when you put it in a harder mode it just puts them in fast forward of the same lines they were taking anyway so it just looks really really weird, almost like the riders are trying to hit you off
-AI riders will just cut a whole section of the course and hit you off the track then just keep going without getting spawned back or crashing,
-AI riders turn right immediately after the race starts
-For some reason they only put 7 letters on a the back of a jersey for a name if you create a rider no matter what you type in
-the barriers are just there to be there i guess? you can ride right through all the tape and it doesnt change anything, its like its not even there
-the "progressive rut" system is a joke because it just changes the color of the same side of the track every time no matter where anyone is riding, -screen tearing/Lag.
-SCREEN TEARING/LAG ---- This cannot be touched on enough. I could live with most of the rest, but this, this makes the game unplayable at its certain stage and i cannot believe they released it like this. Its not even while playing online either, its literally just single player. They keep saying it will be fixed but it clearly isnt (classic THQ). I am playing on a PS4 pro and play games that require way way more juice than this, so IT IS NOT THE SYSTEM. it is a broken game.
The Good (there still is some)
-customization (minus the last name on the jersey issue)
-tracks -- the tracks are actually set up pretty cool if you could see or ride without the screen tearing messing with your eyes or the lag jumping you side to side, up, down, forward, backward.
-the event system is set up well along with the point system to upgrade vehicles and buy new gear.
- that's it
do not buy this game unless they fix the screen tearing and lag issues.
Coming from Need For Speed games. This game was a fresh sight. Have not played MX vs Atv / bike games before.
Impressions so far from playing the two events in the series. The graphics and the maps are gorgeous -- otherworldly and fun. What a beauty! With the v1.06 update frame rate is much improved but sometimes you feel it could have improved a bit further (on some tracks with a lot of foliage). Biggest frustration: The text in tutorials is so tiny and not crisp enough even on a large screen tv which makes it hard for new players. There's no "Restart" race but you can Reset the whole series.. which means a lot of grinding and replaying a lot. Really like the "open world" tracks (not a big fan of closed arena/supercross-type tracks). Definitely worth the thirty bucks, if you can spare, go for it!
It appears to be fun for casual gaming. Would like an option to adjust font size (super annoying) and restart the current race. Frame rate improvements would be welcome too. A bit more polish and this could be AAA game.
This game takes a little time to get the hang of, you don't need to use the right analog stick as much as other games. There are several things that need work in the game though. To start the game will lag slightly when racing with a full gate. The triples in supercross seem very small, as they are extremely easy to over jump. You have to hold back considerably on a 450 to land on the downside. Re-spawns are very unpredictable, at times it will reset you almost instantaneous and others will wait until your 2 sections away from where you went off track. I was under the impression that the game would have replicas of the outdoor national tracks but that's not the case. I really want to see that happen as a dlc, and finally i'd like to see a custom controls option added to the game. Overall, the game plays really well once you get used to it. If your looking for a mx simulator type of game this probably wouldn't be for you, but for the person who just wants to have fun on a semi-realistic game this is right up your alley.
I bought this for my kids but I played it awhile to see how it was. When racing, the screen gets very glitchy and makes it hard to control and see what you're doing. It honestly hurt my eyes to play it. Controlling the bike was harder than other games and I kept running off the track just trying to turn, and no, I am not a newbie at these games. Aside from the controls, the engine and exhaust sounds are terrible if not embarrassing. They aren't realistic at all. As advanced as a PS4 is, I had better quality with the PS2 MX vs ATV Unleashed games!
Update: Played some more and it's just frustrating. The preload and clutch use is not realistic at all. It does not flow good. Why can't they just bring back the Reflex physics that everyone keeps asking for? It was so perfect. The fact that they went on Facebook saying “It looks like some Amazon customers have accidently received the wrong MX game” is just proof that they don't listen to what their audience has to say. Really disappointing.
The game is better than MX vs ATV Alive and MX vs ATV Supercross but it still seems off. I just can’t understand why Reflex was such a good game that everyone keeps referring to but they will not bring the physics back. Fans on Facebook and Amazon reviews keep asking for Reflex physics but THQ never acknowledges it and then wonders why their games get bad reviews.
The preload and clutch is not realistic. The bike does not interact with the terrain consistently. There are quite a few bugs that I’m sure will be fixed with patches. The time trials mode is nice.
