Good game

EA Sports UFC 3 is the third installment of the gaming series on the greatest promotion in the sport of Mixed Martial Arts and was released in February 2018. This review is before the first patch so bare in mind that changes could have been made after you have read this review.

There is a lot to like about this game. The overall presentation has improved with most of the fighters moving and acting like their real life counter parts. The stand-up is far better with the new system, making for more realistic fights on the feet. You have to use strategy now instead of winging spin kicks with no penalty. Stamina drains much quicker now, and if you do not watch your p's and q's then you will find yourself on an end of a counter that puts you out, making the game more true to life than previous installments.

The roster is large and satisfying despite some glaring omissions (Like Colby Covington and Mike Perry). You get a wide range of fighters to choose from in every division and chances are your favourite fighter features in the game. The career mode is good with a lot of focus on promoting fights instead of just training and fighting. There is some new game modes offline such as stand and bang mode (which eliminates grappling) and a pure grappling mode (which eliminates striking). Unfortunately they are only available against the CPU at the moment, but hopefully they make their way online very soon.

Despite there being a lot of fun to be had with the game, the grappling remains similar to previous editions and if you have played this game before then you know it is not ideal. It leaves room for cheesers to exploit the game's grappling issues online which takes the fun away from the game. You find this a lot on ranked mode where the players are much more focused on winning rather than having fun.

Offline the CPU constantly pressure you and never stop going forward. This is unrealistic to a lot of fighters' style and the fact they check 9/10 leg kicks means that you can not use that as a tactic against them. There can often be times where they block every transition on the ground, making it impossible to get out of bad situations.

Overall this game is a lot of fun when you have a stand up battle with someone online. The career mode is worth going through too as you see if you can get your fighter to GOAT status. Other than that, the ground game issues remain making for some matches to be boring and frustrating. The CPU also have issues with checking leg kicks, making offline a bit of a chore too at times. Therefore i give this game 4 stars

Games ok, but after subsequently purchasing this game I realised that for £19.99 you can get 1 years subscription to EA Access which includes this game as well as most EA Sports games (excluding of course games that have just been released). Within EA Access you get all 3 versions of the UFC game. I'd suggest checking out EA Access before purchasing this title or indeed any of the other excellent sports games produced by EA.

I have to be honest and say I’m quite disappointed at this game. I have only just started playing it so I’m hoping I get used to it and it becomes more fun. This is the first ufc game I’ve bought since ea’s first ufc game. I absolutely loved that game however this new one seems to be so much less fluent and Slow. It’s hard to get off combos and movement is terrible compared to the first one. I kind of wish I just stuck to the original because the graphics are just as good and at the moment the gameplay seems to have taken a massive step backwards on this edition. I can’t figure out why EA changed it I would of been happy with just a better career mode and updated roster but keep the majority of the gameplay the same and this game would of been awesome!

Fun. Which is what it;s supposed to be. I mainly play online, and of course there are ways to spam certain combinations which are annoying & completely unrealistic, but you're always going to get that with online. The character models look fantastic, the striking is improved from UFC 2, the ground game is still a chore though.

Career mode is a bit of a disappointment. The difficulty spike once you start fighting top 10 ranked guys is way too high. I get that it should increase, but I'm playing on 'normal' for a reason, if I wanted to play on legendary I would pick it! I'm able to beat 'hard' difficulty comfortably when I play in fight now, yet I'm absolutely dismantled in 'normal' difficulty in career, needs sorting out.

Overall though, it's a real fun game. Definitely recommend if you're a UFC fan, or a fan of fighting games in general.

The striking was the best part of UFC. They have changed that to make it clunky, awkward and unresponsive. The grappling, which was the worst aspect of UFC 2, remains the same, except that now it's incredibly difficult to defend submissions. A part from that, the game does not add anything of value. Really disappointing
