I've tried a few others and payed a lot more thinking I'd like it better but keep going back to the foscam. The others seemed too confined to phone apps and lacked foscam's versatility. I like I can transfer files to and from the card using ftp instead of having to muck around with software or cloud accounts and the like. The browser ware is a little quirky sometimes but I'm inclined to blame these browser's unrelenting "improvements" more than foscam's struggle to accommodate them. Anyway, there's plenty other applicable software options available. All in all, it's a cheap, versatile, robust little pan and zoom unit that while isn't recommended for outdoor use, repeatedly performs perfectly for 2-3 years tucked out under the eave of my garage. It's robust enough that I prefer to spend the $50 to periodically replace it than convert to an expensive outdoor rated pan and zoom sys.
This camera was the first of 3 that I have purchased for use inside our home. The cameras have worked very reliably and in the year I have had them I have contacted Foscam Customer Support several times. Most recently I received the annual renewal notice for my 3-day cloud account. They do offer a nice cloud service at a reasonable price and the app works well. However, one of the features I like best is that these cameras are ONVIF-compliant which means you can use an NVR or NVR software. In my case I use Ben Software SecuritySpy running on an iMac connected to a NAS. I just contacted Foscam support to not renew my cloud account for that reason and Tracy Xia quickly responded to my request to cancel the renewal. You can get more camera for more money, but this camera has worked very well for me.
I got this product in 3 days after placing order. I would like to recommend it to people who want to buy a security camera for family use. Especially for families with kids and pets.
Foscam Security Camera is easy setup if you have the patient related to how it is setup. It is not always easy but if you are familiar with the Foscam camera then setting it up is always a breeze. I returned this one as they shipped me R2E instead of the R2C. I stick with Foscam for all my security cameras as there are more things you can do with it such as sending all your captured pictures and recorded videos via ftp (never used sd card because 4 of my camera outside are mounted on the soffits) and for security reason this is how it should be. the 1st thing burglars going to do once they find out you have a camera is to destroy the camera itself, take out the sd card and look for you computer that stores the pictures/video files. with ftp on the cloud (not foscam, just subscribed to another service), your data is safe. There are issue with FoscamPro apps as it cannot see this remotely, as well as all of my poe foscam outside. Something got change and i do not what it is. Foscam apps is nice but does not support my other older foscam. the only that works for my old foscam and newer ones is the OWLR Foscam apps (and it's greate works perfectly). there are other security cameras out there that you just install, forget about it and not worry about port forwarding. but i do not trust those security cameras coz you never know what it is doing inside your home network...will probably replaced all of my old wireless foscam with this R2C because it's 1080p...
This camera is fantastic for use on your phone. It is ALSO fantastic for use on your desktop computer. We hunted online for days (and also worked with Best Buy on two occasions) trying to find a type of surveillance camera that would also work with our wireless router and without cords to be seen on our desktop computers. This is the ONLY camera that we feel does this. The picture quality is phenomenal and the price is super reasonable for what it provides. We actually love it so much we purchased a second one and now have complete visual of both the front and back yards. This will provide me with great peace of mind that we can see outside without ever going outside.
The setup wasn't to bad, I connected them directly to my router, they were found quickly from the foscam phone app by scanning the barcode on the bottom of the camera. Then I added a user name and password and connected to my wifi network. Response is decent with high speed modem. I don't see a way to zoom in from the web app but can zoom by pinching on the phone app. Free cloud service trial so I can view cameras from outside my wifi network. Option to purchase recording history up to 30 days for like 30. a month. Only complaint were the mounting screws they came with are soft metal and stripped when trying to screw into wood. Not a big deal but if they are going to include screws they should at least give you some that don't strip. I had to return one of the cameras because it wouldn't stay connected and needed rebooting often.
Needed another Foscam for my basement. Works perfectly
