Is a nice middle focal length zoom, with an average aperature, nothing really to complain about as you get a solid lens for the price, but I’d prefer the zoom be a bit smoother for video work. If you don’t care so much about having silky smooth zoom then this lens is everything you pay for.

Very Happy.

For the price the lens performed as it should and the autofocus was good would recommend for Panasonic's M cameras. I'm using this along with my canon 50mm f1.4 I'll see how they perform with the gh2.

It's not a bad lens for the money and the I.S. does what it is supposed to. I like kit lenses because they have a good price to performance ratio and this is one of the better ones I've used. Nice enough even wide open.

I purchased this from Amazon's Electronic Basket. It arrived in a white box instead of the original Panasonic lens box. There was no cap on the back of the lens, no instruction manual, and no warranty/registration card. Those issues seemed very strange. The main reason that I returned it was that the seven blade diaphragm was not circular, but was egg/trapizoid shaped. I also do not like that there is no warranty with the lens.

I bought this lens in a trip in Japan to replace my Olympus 12-50mm. This lens is a pretty looking lens, it is smaller than Panasonic 14-45mm, the rear mount is made out of plastic. The Pana 14-42 II is light yet looks durable. AF is fast, yet not extremely fast as Pana 25mm 1.4; however, it is as fast as Pana 14-45mm. Quality of images is very good, very sharp when shoot wide open and max zoom. I owned Olympus 14-42, 12-50, Pana 14-45, Pana 20 1.7, and Pana 25 1.4. I did not have much time with Olympus 14-42 and 12-50mm, but I think Pana 14-42 II is a better Olympus KITs in IQ, it is comparable with Pana 14-45, yet no discussion to compare with Pana 20 1.7 or 25 1.4. I bought this lens because its weight, IQ, AF, and its color which matches very well with OMD silver. When zooming, the lens extends just about .5centimeter. Finally, power built-in O.I.S is not activated when mounted on Olympus body, so there is no collision with I.S on Olympus body. It can only be activated on Panasonic body (Panasonic says so).

+Auto focus
+Light weight
+Image quality
+Price: cheaper than Pana 14-45
+Color: Black and silver
-Plastic rear mount
-Plastic body

I've never had a more impressive kit lens.

-Extremely sharp at all apertures
-Maybe the fastest focusing lens I've ever used
-Compact and lightweight
-Looks nice
-Seems well constructed for price
-IS/AF are silent (good for video)
-Comes with hood and center pinch cap

Sure, the aperture is slow and the zoom range is not incredible, but for general good light stuff, this lens will make you smile.

I found the stabilizer wanting, and was expecting one I could turn on or off as you can with most.

Panasonic DMC-GF3
