I’m a photographer, and thus bought the monocular to use with my iPhone 8 Plus. Using the supplied camera mount; I'm able to take high quality pictures of distant stationary objects. It's very difficult to use the monocular to photograph moving objects, such as birds, but that's to be expected. Unlike when using a regular camera, since the combination of the phone & mount are somewhat awkward, it's not as easy to photograph wildlife that doesn't stay in one place for at least half a minute or so. I had hoped to be able to photograph birds, but find that as soon as I'm ready to take the picture, they fly away. Of course, if you have a bird feeder, it will be a lot easier than attempting to photograph birds in the wild. With that said, I'm giving this monocular a rating of 5 stars, as I feel that it has the capability of rendering excellent photographs & is superb when used for viewing purposes alone.
I am a novice with this type of equipment but am impressed with the product. The phone attachment took some playing with (attach to phone first, then to monocular) and also had to play with phone app to get good results (I can use the phone zoom to eliminate circular picture, etc...). An initial effort to video a hummingbird in slo-mo has gotten very good reviews. The 12x magnification can make viewing shaky so I am ordering a pistol grip mini-tripod to help with that (worth it to have the greater magnification, I think). Overal quality seems very good and I quickly got comfortable looking with one eye closed.
I CAN'T FOCUS WITH BINOCULARS, EVEN SMALLER ONES. THE MONOCULAR WAS A WONDERFUL SURPRISE FOR ME.
Objects are jittery when zoomed in, but some decent photos can be taken at shorter distances. Trying to take a photo of the moon was nearly impossible without a tripod. The hawk in the photos I've uploaded was across the street in a very tall tree- using an iPhone 7. I'm very pleased with my purchase so far. The quality of the monocular seems to be very good. I was able to arrange the phone attachment so that I take landscape photos.
Overall, I was quite disappointed. The magnification of this 10X50 is less than my 10X42 binoculars. The weight is about the same as the binoculars. I purchased this to use specifically with my Iphone. The picture on the Iphone is a circle taking up about 3/4 of the screen, not like the ad picture, which shows full screen. Then, it would NOT focus well on anything using the phone. The field of view is too narrow for my needs. Lastly, the holding position, as pictured, is quite uncomfortable. The wrist angle is unnatural and with the weight, including the phone, was restrictive.
This Gorsky scope works just as discribed! Easy to hold and focus and is very clear! 5 stars!! The cell phone holder works great. It fits the cell phone so there is no movement when taking photos! The shudder wire plugs in to the cell. You then just push the button to take pictures. 5 stars for whole package!!
I have used this for gazing over the city, mostly. I have also taking some pictures with it using my smart phone. The optics seem quite good for the price, and I enjoy using it.
Do not recommend!
I own two very good astronomical telescopes and I know about and am fussy about optical quality. I wanted a monocular with decent optics for general use but at a reasonable price and I can confirm that this unit is top quality for the money. The ED and Bak4 glass works really well. Image is very clear indeed with minimal if any, colour fringing in high light contrast tests. The build quality of the unit is excellent and 'solid' as well. I definitely recommend this monocular if you want quality but are only prepared to pay too much extra for it.
